I am experimenting with 3d models and terrain, using perlin noise, procedural texture, voronoi, lightsources and render techniques. Simulating Moon, Mars and asteroid surfaces.
How could a commercial asteroid mining operation look like?
I am fascinated by space technology and exploration so I spent some time reading about mining in space and how it could benefit us all.
On another note, it’s amazing what can be done using a Voronoi diagram, in this case as a texture deforming a 3d mesh, creating a rocky appearance and volumetric dust. (Taking away some of the mystery of this image.)
The Voronoi diagram itself has found its use within many different fields ranging from biology, architecture, mining and in aviation for example, ‘ETOPS’ procedures which enables airplanes to safely cross the Atlantic and other long distances with only a few airports available.
A panoramic render I created for Made of Mars inc.
Made of Mars Inc is a research, outreach and design company that will lead the public to the journey to space by developing the technology to build everything we need to survive and thrive in Space from the materials we can find beyond Earth.
